Cairns Airport has won its second international award this year coming fourth for best regional airport in Australia and the Pacific in the Skytrax World Airport awards for 2019.
The awards that began in 1999 are regarded as a quality benchmark for the world airport industry and assess customer service and facilities across 550 airports worldwide.
Skytrax global awards are based on passenger surveys and are independent and impartial with no third party involvement. The surveys are conducted in a number of languages to encourage participation and represent responses from over 100 nationalities.
Chief Operations Officer Kate McCreery-Carr said the award was great recognition for the wonderful collaboration that goes on across the Airport community that contributes to the customer experience.
“This is the first time Cairns Airport has been recognised in the Skytrax World Airport awards and the recognition of the airport experience we offer our passengers is a great achievement,” Ms McCreery-Carr said.
The customer survey evaluates traveller experiences across different airport service and performance indicators from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
“It’s great to get this positive report card from our passengers as it’s a reflection of all the great work that goes on across the airport. With the upgrade of the domestic terminal we look forward to improving this experience even further”, said Ms McCreery-Carr.
The survey that was conducted from August 2017 to February 2018 is completed voluntarily online by passengers.
Earlier this year Cairns Airport topped the rankings for the most punctual airport in Australia and New Zealand.
