News of more international services for Cairns Airport continues to flow as China Eastern Airlines announce another round of scheduled seasonal services for an extended period around Chinese New Year 2016.
Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Brown, said the airport’s GM Aeronautical Development and Marketing, Janice Antonson, met with China Eastern representatives in China last month and has now confirmed these services for Cairns.
“China Eastern have operated seasonal flights between Cairns and Shanghai since October 2012 and we are pleased to see these continue in 2016,” Mr Brown said.
“They will run a daily service over the peak Chinese New Year period from 15 January through to 21 February 2016. From February 22 through to 30 April they will operate 3 return services per week each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.”
“This gives us a total of 53 flights into Cairns bringing Chinese visitors here to enjoy our destination. Using A330 aircraft each flight has 260 seats so these services have the potential to carry almost 14,000 inbound passengers.”
“Cairns Airport looks forward to continuing our strong partnership with China Eastern Airlines as we approach Chinese New Year 2016, and beyond.”
