Passenger Growth Continues

Cairns Airport has today released its passenger numbers for January 2017.

Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer, Norris Carter, said there were 31,500 more passengers through the terminals this January compared to January 2016.

“This represents an average daily increase of 1,000 passengers,” Mr Carter said. “The growth was consistent across the month, with a peak towards the end of January coinciding with Chinese New Year falling on the 28th.

“International passenger numbers increased by 16.4 per cent or 8,870.”

“The Jin Air seasonal service from Seoul was successful, with consistently high load factors. This is good news as we work towards welcoming Jin Air back to Cairns later this year. We aim to secure additional seasonal services and eventually a year round service, that would really open up the Korean visitor market for our destination.”

“Hong Kong Airlines operated daily flights throughout January and Cathay Pacific four times a week, with both airlines bringing thousands of Chinese and other international visitors here from Hong Kong. Our other international airlines also contributed to the growth in international passengers.”

“Domestic passenger numbers grew by 6.4 per cent or 22,450 compared to January last year. This was boosted by the addition of 20,700 more seats across our domestic network to meet additional demand over the Chinese New Year period.”
