Virgin Australia today added another route to their Cairns network with services to the Gold Coast set to commence in early December.
Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer Richard Barker said the increase in services was a very welcome announcement for both the region and the airport offering locals choice on the popular route for the first time.
“The addition of Gold Coast services means Virgin Australia are serving more destinations from Cairns ever by Virgin Australia and that’s great testament to their commitment to serve Tropical North Queensland and rebuild after the past eighteen months.
“Over a hundred and twenty thousand passengers fly between the Gold Coast and Cairns per year and as Australia’s two most sought-after holiday destinations, it’s another opportunity for people to enjoy holidays with everything from the surf of the Gold Coast to the Reef and Rainforest of Tropical North Queensland.
“Subject to border restrictions easing soon, Virgin Australia will operate 53 percent more seats to and from Cairns in December 2021 versus December 2019, and that’s a great vote of confidence in Cairns and our region.”
Alistair Hartley Virgin Australia’s Chief Strategist and Transformation Officer said the new service commencing on December 9 connecting Cairns and the Gold Coast would provide more than 9,800 seats a month between the two sought after destinations.
“Virgin Australia recognises there’s a growing demand and increasing confidence to travel, and that’s why we’re excited to announce these new Gold Coast services today, taking off this December,” Mr Hartley said.
The Virgin Australia network from Cairns now includes Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth with services between Cairns and Adelaide to go daily from November 1.
