UPDATE 8:30AM 23 September 2016]
Protected Industrial Action (PIA) for Australian Border Force employees may be occurring at Cairns Airport’s T1 (International Terminal) at any time from Monday 26th September – Sunday 9th October, 2016.
It is uncertain what the impact will be on passengers as a result of the action. As a precaution it is recommended that people flying out of Cairns on international flights during this period ensure they arrive at the airport around an hour earlier than they usually would and that people coming to the airport to meet passengers on international flights remember that there could be some delays with inbound border processes.

INTERRUPTION TO AIRPORT SERVICES FROM 29 MARCH 2016:
Protected industrial action that had previously been notified for 23 March to 28 March will not proceed. Delays are no longer expected from 23 to 28 March 2016.
The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) is asking its members, who are employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, to participate in protected industrial action at various international airports from 29 March 2016.
While the likely level of participation is unknown, we strongly encourage airline and cruise ship passengers to plan for potential delays by arriving at international airports and cruise ship terminals even earlier.
The Department is working closely with stakeholders to minimise the impact on the travelling public, cargo and mail operations. We are also ensuring appropriate contingencies are in place for visa and citizenship services.
