Upgrade work on Airport Avenue will commence on Tuesday 3 October and is expected to continue for approximately one month, subject to weather conditions.
Contractor Boral Resources, advise they will undertake works at night between the hours of 6:00pm and 5:00am.
Changes to speed limits will apply throughout the work period with an upper limit of 60kmh for the entire length of Airport Avenue in place during the day. During the night, when works are underway, the speed limit will be further reduced to 40kmh in the work zones. A Variable Message Board will be in place to remind drivers of the current speed limits.
Traffic management will be in place as required. Only minor delays are expected and the priority will be given to traffic inbound to the airport.
People are encouraged to allow an additional 10- 15 minutes for their road journey to or from the airport.
Some temporary restrictions will apply to the access to the Jack Barnes Bicentennial Mangrove Boardwalk car park.
Cairns Airport thanks everyone for their patience during this project.
Cairns Regional Council plan to continue this work along the section of Airport Avenue from Saltwater Creek to Sheridan Street once the Cairns Airport section is completed.
