The Cairns Aviation Skills Centre will open its doors on Sunday 25 August from 9am - 12pm to all budding aviation enthusiasts for the Cairns Airport Careers Day.
The day is an opportunity to check out information about pathways and potential careers in the airport and aviation sector, right here in Cairns. Get up close to some airport operations vehicles and aircraft, including an Alliance Airlines F100! The CQU Flight Simulator at the CQU Aviation Centre will also be open for Careers Day attendees on the day to try.
If you're finishing school soon and looking into an exciting career in aviation, come along and find out more on apprenticeships, traineeships and general courses. Talk to over 20 employers such as Aviation Australia, Cairns Airport, Skytek, Skytrans, Qantas, Airservices, Australian Border Force, Jet Aviation and many more, about a huge range of opportunities.
Bring the kiddies along for a fun and FREE event which offers the chance to get up close to aircraft, pat our friendly Australian Border Force Dogs and get your face-painted!
Sausage sizzle and refreshments will be available on the day, supporting the Kamerunga Rovers, part of The Scout Association of Australia. Please remember to bring hats, sunscreen and water.
Careers Day Special Guest Appearance
- Enjoy a meet and greet with reigning Red Bull Air Race World Champion, Matt Hall and his protégé Emma McDonald. Check out the aircraft they fly for the incredible aerobatic displays, while getting the chance to ask questions to learn more about what is involved in the sport.

Aerobatic Performance - Saturday 24 August (as part of the Cairns Festival)
Emma McDonald will be performing an aerobatic display over the Cairns Esplanade on Saturday 25 August between 3.30pm - 4.30pm. Stay on for the Cairns Festival Grand Parade kicking off at 5.30pm.
Best place to view the show? The flight will be visible anywhere along the Cairns Esplanade.

About Emma McDonald:
Emma is a multi-disciplined pilot trained at Matt Hall Racing with credentials in aerobatics, displays, charter and racing. Emma has displayed at V8 Supercars, Australian International Airshow and several national air shows. She is listed to display at Pacific Airshow on the Gold Coast and Huntington Beach USA in 2023. Emma holds the position of operations manager at Matt Hall Racing and doubles as a pilot thrilling passenger in the Extra 300L, to flying sick kids from the outback to the cities for treatment.
